River Rafting in Nepal
In addition to world's highest mountain range, this region has one of the world's best white water river. Few countries in the world offers rafters the thrilling white water rapids plus impressive scenery of snow capped peaks and tropical jungles that Nepal does. From the seat of rubber raft, the rafts will see the colorful flora, faunna and village life of Nepal. It is interesting to note that rafting on the commercial scale was virtually unknown in Nepal till 1978.
The rafting trips mainly takes place on Trishuli and Sunkoshi river though in two of Nepal's far western rivers - Karnali and Bheri has recently been introduced. In fact many of the adventure trips of Nepal now combine a trek with a rafting expedition and a visit to the wild life at Chitwan National Park. The most popular rafting river in Nepal, Trishuli river starts north west of Kathmandu and flows south and then west to Mugling, on Kathmandu to Pokhara road where in joins the eastward flowing Marshyangdi river.
Due accessibility from many points this river is very popular. It is relatively easy, gentle one - good for experienced rafters. Expedition typically takes 3 to 7 days, although day trips are also possible.
If the Trishuli river appeals to rafters looking for an easy float than the Sunkoshi is the river for exciting, heart stopping white water adventure. The Sunkoshi, the Golden river is one of the main tributaries of the Sapta Koshi river system. It flows across eastern Nepal draining the highest Himalayas, including Mount Everest from Tibet. This river flows southward into Nepal and reaches far eastern Nepal.
Along the rafting course in both rivers, the rafters will find many challenging rapids. They offer the opportunity of viewing religious activities along the bank - an integral part of village life. The green vegetation along the route is an equally interesting view to .... Among 800 species of birds, 400 species can be seen with the help of binoculars. The best season for rafting is the month of October, November, December, March & April.
